Globe Star http://www.globe-star.org/gt.htm gentleness is crucial for building companionship and community. Gentleness means preventing any form of violence and instead evoking peace. To do this, we value:
-
Interdependence over independence
-
Nurturing over controlling
-
Unconditional love over rewards and punishments
-
Collective decision-making over self-determination
-
Nonviolence and dialogue over violence and confrontation
This is the approach that our Caregivers take when interacting with the Individuals we serve. It is the Mentors’ responsibility to facilitate this spirit of gentleness with their Caregivers. Together, they assess the Caregiver’s tools and interactions to build companionship and community with an Individual.
To learn more about this assessment process, see the form entitled Facilitating a Spirit of Gentleness.
Also see the document entitled The Handbook to Facilitating a Spirit of Gentleness. This handbook is used to develop a mentoring plan that supports an Individual during times of difficult behaviors.
